It’s a common usage, employed by many people I like and even admire. It’s become absolutely standard in the Humanities. But I just can’t be doing with the verb ‘to interrogate’ instead of ‘to examine, to investigate’. It’s misanthropic and deeply authoritarian.

Exactly. I’m against the destruction / removal of statues, unless in blatant cases. But 10th century? I think they could let that one rest!
