Haha thanks man. Just figuring it all out too. How are you doing it?

Just a need a mid-range graphics card. It's incredibly fast. You could program sound inputs/outputs, set parameters to dials, interact with live video, etc. Tons of possibilities.

It depends on what you want to do. I'd start with the program. If you're most interested in real-time interactive work, the internet is bursting with tutorials for Unity/C#. If you're more interested in pre-rendered cinematic VFX, you might want to check out Houdini/Python.

learning unity is probably a good place to start! There are tons of tutorials that can ease you coding.
Shaders are a bit of a different beast, but thebookofshaders.com is a great resource. You can mess with code in the browser and instantly see how things change.

This is a decent tutorial to get started... kylehalladay.com/blog/tutorial/…
But compute shader resources are few and far between so definitely recommend taking a compute workshop with @psychobiotik if you can. Helped me immensely.

Do you have any coding experience? Some resources can get overwhelming, so "where to start" can change a bit :)

More real-time particle experiments with compute shaders. The results can be so surprising and beautiful... also fleeting. You'll never see the same thing twice. #madewithunity #creativecoding #unity3d #shaders #gamedev #indiedev pic.twitter.com/RE1YSv9shf

it is, but doesn't have to be. You can share data across multiple shaders if you want

Thank you! It's all part of the compute shader. Mouse position is sent to the shader which modifies depth values for each pixel with a soft circle. Color changes depending on how deep the trench is. The particles look at the depth values to help stay within the trenches.
