The huge outpour of support and ❤️ around shootings is heartening. We know that now is not the time to respond with fear and calls for more security. Greater safety will come when those in power stop stoking flames of hatred and emboldening white supremacy.

An active shooter has barricaded himself inside a Pittsburgh synagogue. As of right now, 7 people have been reported dead. It’s Shabbat, the Jewish sabbath. They were praying. Hold your communities close. To the Jewish community: we are with you.

Whomever did this is a monster. Our places of worship should be sanctuaries. We should all be free and safe to practice our faith in this country without fear of being targeted.

Being anti-Muslim seemed like a lucrative position except that most candidates running on an anti-Muslim platform are on track to lose or lost already. Time to rethink that strategy.

Don’t ever feel the need to respond to racists who intentionally are hell bent on not understanding nor willing to listen and evolve on their views. Don’t fall in the trap of answering their questions that are framed from their limited and bigoted perspectives. Waste of time.

Don’t take the hate u have for me & Muslims out on anyone else. Alyssa Milano is showing up for others & fighting 4 a country that respects all of us. She doesn’t answer 4 me - she only knows my clear work that aligns w/ her vision of a more equal, compassionate & just America.

I try not to engage the hate for my own mental health and self worth but every once in a while I jump in to affirm that I am not afraid and I will be who I am: an unapologetic Palestinian Muslim American mom activist/organizer from Brooklyn. Nothing will ever change that.

The irony is white supremacists, islamophobes and racists will claim that Islam is a violent religion by sending me violent messages and tweeting vulgarities on the daily. It’s ridiculous and exhausting.

I will not allow for my people to be vilified & dehumanized because when it’s allowed for too long - bad things happen. Atrocities happen and the history of this country taught me that. We will keep organizing, building power and speaking out because it’s OUR right to.

Vilifying Muslims is a favorite past-time for some. It’s not just rhetoric, it’s policies targeting people who are Muslim, it’s hate crimes against Muslims and those perceived to be Muslims. They don’t want us to speak out AND when we do we become targets of the venom.

There are people who hate what I represent. I shatter every stereotype they have of Muslim women and my existence dismantles the propaganda they have spewed about Muslims and some folks have fell for because we need an enemy to blame our ills on. Muslims have become that.
