What does Pinker have to reintroduce, though? The moral backbone of the modern secular project is liberalism, and liberalism is how Christianity climbs back from the window in a new dress after having been kicked out from the door

Eternal, eternal, I want to be eternal—I want to be the meadow that's deeper than the ocean, I want to be the ocean that's brighter than a star, I want to be the star that goes looking for a void inside itself

One of the insights that can be acquired by sheer observation is how the vast majority of people ends up looping in cognitive dissonance because the aesthetic side of their will is trained to commit suicide since early age, but it never really dies altogether

This is true except the notion of 'creative' as an identity, 'a creative person', is of course drivel. Creativity is an intimate faculty of the will in any sentient human life, on par with mastering space and manipulating surroundings. They all coalesce into meaning

Some of the books content is outdated as it relates specifically to the US of the 1930s, but the core philosophical and practical ideas are absolutely relevant and were visionary for their time

He proposes an entirely decentralized society in which people live in smallish communities, connected by high speed transport, where technology serves man and nature (not the other way around) and in which every single citizen must have at least one acre of land

It’s not a book about environment, rather a book that advocated for an environmentally smart project at a time when that wasn’t a concern. Wright builds from philosophical and political ideas, he sees the city (typified by New York) as inherently dehumanizing for the Individual

Read about Wright’s ideas about this if you haven’t. Highly recommend the book. Wright is regarded as a genius for his architecture, but a hundred years from now this will be more known than his buildings. Incredibly ahead of his time

which itself is controversial but it's also necessary to undertake any scientific enquiry of the subject. There's a lot to cognition that isn't measurable. I agree "too smart" is most likely cope, but because of broken heuristics to self-id "smart" rather than whatever this shows

It's more complicated than that. People who say that don't mean they are doing worse in life necessarily, but rather that they're doing worse at being happy. Second, the study is grounded in the assumption of psychometrics as a reliable indicator of "intelligence"

Case in point does anyone even remember this shit? They were around for years before memes. The format had the time to establish itself. Meme formats now have a shelf life of a month or so; just accelerate it until memes die faster than it takes to invent them

Unless encrypted a poem. Poetry is a market-proofing, like sound-proofing. Or you could think it noise-proofing. Like a deep captcha. People immediately feel tired, you turn invisible. Poetry is like the ring of power, circling in form and content ofc
