I suspect it's because most people aren't kind to themselves ("I'm really stupid for not getting this!" etc) so one way to convince yourself of some thing's unquestionable importance is to set a hard "rule"/"requirement" for others, esp. as online dialogue is more unfiltered.

I haven't even been to a tech meetup, but @slsoftworks has been really encouraging and I'd love to create our little community here as well. Apparently a Hack'n'Learn stands for bringing your own laptop and working on the projects that you want, so it's not very stressful.

It's just as confusing when you're thinking of addition but accidentally programming subtraction (or vice versa) in some long-ish operation, so you glaze over it for a couple of minutes in frustration.

I've never thought before about the conservation of digital media actually, even though we can't count on memory or hardware supporting it years later. Really interesting topic to explore re porting, automatic collections, preserving the original look after porting, art history..
