I was working in communications at a nonprofit when a LinkedIn recruiter reached out to me. We met (in person!) over coffee and she asked what I was looking for. About a week later I had my first dev interview. I accepted their offer shortly after. Luck was def a factor.

Yeah, I’d say if you’re psyched about the role, and the known issues at the company rate as “something you can live with” — it’s worth going for.

It’s also worth considering if the bad rep is due to something you might be able to help change as a potential future employee (e.g. lack of organization or deadlines). The specific team you’d work on, and whether they suffer the same reputation issues, is also valuable IMHO.

For me, it would depend on why the company has a bad rep. Are they known for shady HR policies and management with no vision (avoid!), or is the rep due to understandable layoffs or salary gripes (not necessarily a hard no)?

Definitely. Do you find anyone else on your team resents having to document so much in PRs?

😅 Glad I'm not the only one! (I love when I catch a missing test or edge case to address when writing out a test plan, before I've even started testing. Makes all the documentation feel worthwhile!)

Does anyone else write summaries and test plans in PRs that are significantly longer than the actual code you're adding? 🙋🏻‍♀️ Sometimes I can't decide if it's a waste of time, or helpful context for reviewers and my future self.
