We're literally writing a book defending material interests (though not class reductive ones) as being central to political analysis and action, so... And Jeremy is the one insistent on calling them "material" lol

Soft left arguably always disoriented, the catch all remainder in the PLP

His use of term "soft" is not meant to mean "less left" so much as differently left to (for example) old left, hierarchical unions etc. Left communism via Deleuze-Guattari and the new left/alterglobalisation

Agreed it's been largely polarised into pro/anti Corbynist camps

Jeremy thinks he's soft left but he isn't really... His critique of Corbyn is that he's not radically left enough... He just likes the term.

This is a good point. AS treated seriously is not a crisis in Labour. It did not start with Corbyn. It isn't only in the Labour party. This is obvious but barely present in our treatment of it. The media crisis and actual AS both deserve treatment but not the same treatment.

... have demonstrated a kind of oversimplified loyalty that bodes poorly for the future necessity of having a movement that can hold a Corbyn govt to account when in power.

It's not about Willsman per se. This whole moment has been awful because the Comms/management at centre were never swift and harsh enough when needed (which would have allowed them to go on actual offensive against the misuse of AS). Meanwhile big chunks of the movement ...

As a stress test it's shown how weak Comms and management remain at centre and how lacking in nuance broader movement is

I fucking hate this. Yeah, the neoliberal academy is wretched, but no, professionalisation in this respect is just the bare minimum necessary to protect vulnerable people. And everyone doing a PhD is vulnerable to abide by their supervisor. It's not infantalising to say this.

Quite simply even "consensual cuddling" is totally inappropriate. It should not be a feature of a modern supervisory relationship.

Condescending yes, and yet, on the material in this defence alone, it is clear she has abused her power quite appallingly.
