It is an old study and you know that some more recent studies are critical of aspirin... (I still take some, just in case.)

I once got excited about a 40MB hard drive I bought.

I could write the code if you have use for it.

No matter what, by going to floats, you lose random bits. Eg., binary64 won't have 64 random bits. Also be mindful that the operation to convert from ints to floats is not free at all.

It is a bit tricky to convert random words into uniformly distributed floats. Standard way is, say, to grab 52 bits, cast to a double and then multiply by 1.0/(1<<53) to get something in [0,1). You could write entire books on the topic...

I did not check the file, you do you really mean ascii to utf8? What does ascii to utf8 do?

I am the sole author of one of my papers. The Canadian government insists that I specify the "contribution percentage". Note that "100%" is not an option. I guess it must be some kind of puzzle. pic.twitter.com/ZlStM2pAP7

Can you share the best code you were able to come up with? (safe code) I'd love to take a look.

Surely you can do better than MB/s. Modern disks can deliver 2GB/s and even 4 GB/s... up to 5 GB/s in some cases. Of course, the file needs to be non trivial in size.

I guess that solar panels are more efficient but you need to factor in construction and maintenance.

I don't think one should tolerate bigots based on whatever might be happening in politics. This letter should be challenged.
