I think it's important for us to consciously put users at the centre of user research. This sounds odd, but there is a pattern emerging where some of the work is 'user researching' a company's new idea. It doesn't really work like that. I miss user-centred design as a term.

I think their role is to ensure that everyone on the team understands the real user need that we are seeking to meet (not just if ppl want the feature we plan to ship), how well we are currently doing at meeting that need and how we could do better.
