I wonder if I am missing the point, but how did we get to the stage that education is seen as the most important way to resolve this? Surely as a society we should seek to solve the root causes of economic disparities and make schools one cog of an overall integrated solution?

I can’t help but wonder if the promotion of a competitive market system in education, the encouragement of business people as trustees leading to “KPIs” and “USPs”, and the obsession with targets and league tables might have something to do with this?
