Took a while, but now tops the DAPP weekly rankings, sitting on a tidy 860.78 ETH weekly volume!

Fat Cryptopunks Thesis: Every successful collectible NFT on ethereum traces their lineage to those 10,000 punks. Each time a collectible NFT becomes important to someone, the cultural significance of the Cryptopunks gets just a little bit bigger.

This is a really nice collection, worth a look. Many haven't been on the market in some time. Great to know that it's supporting our friends at and @dotdotgallery as well.

The other possibility is that they put their account offline or in cold storage as a way to keep it safe, and may bring it back out to claim the proceeds of the sale. We will see!

So there's a pretty good chance that one or more of the following is true: 1) this person has no idea they've sold this punk for 100 ETH (~$20K), 2) they have lost the private key to their Ethereum account and 3) will never actually receive the money from this sale.

Furthermore, because the Ethereum blockchain is completely public, we can also see that the underlying Ethereum account hasn't done anything with any other contract either:

However! The account that owns this punk, whoever that may be, hasn't done anything else related to the Cryptopunks _at all_ for over 2 years.

But, since then there's been growing interest in punks that have 0 traits. So there's actually been a steady stream of bids, growing in value over time.

So if we look at 6487 () we see that it was claimed (for free) by someone almost 3 years ago, then immediately offered for sale for 100 ETH, which at the time felt... optimistic.

One of the cool things about the CryptoPunks is that their entire history and provenance is completely and independently tracked (on the blockchain 🤓).

This is a very good point, and something people might not know: the punks have been around long enough now that the person who sold this punk may not realize they sold it, and might conceivably never collect the money. (thread)

And 4 days later... we have a new #1. The first 100 ETH+ sale, and the highest of all time. Good thing we made that top sales page!

We were just looking at the site a couple days ago! The design holds up surprisingly well considering it’s something like 11 years old at this point.

This is pretty crazy. Not only are the punks back in first place on () - they've now done over 500 ETH / ~$100K worth of volume in the past week. Makes me think we should do a more detailed stats page to put some of this recent activity in context.

There are now no punks for sale below 1 ETH. Somebody bought up everything below 1 last night:
