Many Chinese students in the US are calling now the "most difficult time" for them, sandwiched between US student visa rules and both sides' travel limits. Junior of Emory University told me that it feels like “being kicked around like a ball" by the two countries.

Mine (Mycological Assn of Washington DC) has monthly lectures, ID hikes, and cooking contests in non-pandemic times. We're figuring out how to do some of those things online. NAMA is the US org for amateur clubs (there's a separate org for scientists):

Appreciate you so much, . All the criticisms are valid. The sheer tonnage of complexities & failings of these people I couldn’t get. Or wrestled with but cut. I took 6 years and fit as much as I could in a 2.5 hour musical. Did my best. It’s all fair game.

If you’re an international student in the US, don’t panic. Remember: 1. Your university wants you to stay 👇 2. Travel logistics are impossible 3. There is a public outcry against this 4. Stupid policies have been reversed before 5. Hold tight, we will fight this

Tonight's mushroom club meeting was about mushroom sex. Fun fact: The fungus Schizophyllum commune has over 23,000 mating types, so when two hyphae of this species meet up they are extremely likely to be able to reproduce sexually. So much more versatile than binary gender!

An immigrant from Taiwan who came to the US to get his PhD is the inventor of the N95 mask and he has come out of retirement to help US companies produce more. Saw this on Twitter earlier and apologize for not crediting a HT; can't recall whose post I saw.

Today published an article I wrote - about how lately there's been more work on AI that's 'fair' & 'for good', but "‘fair’ & ‘good’ are infinitely spacious words that any AI system can be squeezed into." There's another question: how is AI shifting power?"

This piece is everything I’ve been looking for. What do we know about how and when and which kids spread -19 at school? What has happened in other countries? It’s all here — and amazingly, it’s somewhat reassuring.
