It’s funny how counter this is to what most onlookers might think - that at the highest level, for each move, both players are perfectly projecting twelve moves into the future. Not true.

Fun fact of the day. The top-rated Chess player in the world, Magnus Carlsen, often says that he “very very” rarely has long-term plans when playing a game. You have to constantly reevaluate the board due to how many variations there can be for each move.
