You'd almost think, some days, that there is too much to learn for any single individual, and we should.... I don't know.... collaborate a bit more? ;)

You know that person who writes great reviews/comments? Who you’re always wondering what they think of the latest paper you read (or wrote)?
Encourage them to apply to be an Associate Editor at @CollabraOA!
All ranks & areas of psych are welcome to apply! We want a diverse team! twitter.com/improvingpsych…

If you know the saying "everything is correlated with everything, though only weakly" (and buy it), the crud factor should be interesting
psyarxiv.com/96dpy I had not heard of the crud factor before seeing this paper by @OrbenAmy & @lakens

In my review, deleted the paragraph where I made assumptions about the motivation to write a paper like this, but the thought that this was written to defend a d = .08 effect size did come to mind!

Yep - that is why I asked if you 'feel' you have the time - priorities can make you feel you don't!

I inderstand it is difficult to find the time now, but that 1 hour a day set up sounds perfect. I would love to create that habit - I had a colleague who spend the first hour every day learning math. Looked great (especially since he kept it up for 40+ years!)

We were just talking about that this morning - how you have 20 genius papers you just need to get out there sonwe can read them :) [btw, in your uni tomorrow for ethics workshop - let me know if you want a beer at the end of the day!]

This by @gshmueli is really *the* article on this topic. Extremely educational. projecteuclid.org/euclid.ss/1294…

Well, I think "choice" also deserves the quotation marks. Yes, we have time we can spend in any way we want. But it would require planning this in, and saying no to other things (which are also fun and yield more immediate rewards). It's tricky :)

I had a colleague who spend the first hour of (almost) every day learning (mainly math). Found that quite inspirational. So it can be done!

I took a break around 2012 - 2013. I have basically no papers in 2013 (first year tenure track) but I feel it paid off in the end to learn new skills that year. Bit risky strategy though.

That's exactly the thing I am wondering about. There is always time. But do people feel they could take a break from publishing and learn new things?

Yes. I am particularly interested in the trade-off between writing the paper you are able to write now, and investing time to learn how to write the paper you currently can't.

This tweet was partly inspired by a coffee machine chat with the head of another department when he was about to retire. He said he looked forward to having time to read and think. I think most people wouldn't expect scientists feel they need to retire to have time for this. twitter.com/lakens/status/…

Ok - but don't you need more meta-data then just the stats and a note to make the analysis data FAIR? It is nice to store all output alongside the code in case calculations change, so you can alwaya see which numbers code produced
