I grew up in Hobart and lived in rural WA for much of my adult life, with 2+ hour one way commutes a regular fixture of work and school. I’m not in denial about it 😊

Sure! Bypasses have a place. I’d probably vote for a bypass around/under or a lane expansion in some of the places you mentioned. That’s a very different problem space.

There’s a lot of technology ifs here. Even granting all those - you’re basically just talking about taxis, and a roaming fleet of taxis may not be “parked”, but can easily clog a city on their own.

It’s fine not to live or work in the city, but if you don’t, I’m not sure what transportation crisis you’re facing. If you are in/around the city, mass transit is far and away the best solution.
