Not sure I agree for a PM unless very junior and just testing for raw product sense. The complexities of getting a product to market are significantly higher than a hackathon mvp (including potential conflicts with the team!)

Another path is to work in an adjacent role (tech policy works!), develop deep functional expertise, and transfer to being the team’s PM - the standard downlevel is only one level in companies that I’m aware of like goog, Twitter, so nbd (though one needs to be exceptional)

I think it’s because bad PMs can be very destructive, expensive mistakes *and* it’s hard to figure out pm quality in the interview process. So a track record of launching good products and having positive relationships with eng/design/xfn teams is the only way to somewhat tell.

Cool! I’m trying to get better at Spanish to make it our “family” language instead of English. Somehow my toddler only speaks English, despite attending a French preschool and us only speaking Spanish & Chinese to him since birth 🤦🏻♀️
