The " doesn't understand open source" meme is feeling a little flabby lately. Firecracker is on fire and perhaps the best indicator is not anything AWS has built, but what built to extend it (Ignite)

This is definitely something we're having in the roadmap. Do you want to help make this happen? We'd love to get maintainers / contributors :)

Very first stab at a comparison between AWS lambda, Cloudflare Workers and Fastly’s new wasm based runtime. I started with the AWS lambda sketch and then adopted the same convention for the others too. Counting on the internet to call me out if any of this is inaccurate 😏

After futzing with Ubuntu upgrade for a bit I got working on a machine at home, very cool stuff! Extremely promising, but you can tell it's new 🙃 Filed some issues to discuss possible improvements I'd love to help implement for 😁 Kudos

Check the --kernel flag to create/run. The kernel is packaged as an OCI image, too. (Hence can include other stuff like modules, config files, source, etc) Prebuilt options are: weaveworks/ignite-kernel:{4.14.x,4.19.x} weaveworks/ignite-amazon-kernel (provided by the FC team)

Ignite is made for running VMs. Kata or firecracker-containerd is made for running containers. With kata you can run an app as PID 1, eg nginx. With ignite you run a real init system e.g. systemd/OpenRC as PID 1. Kata value-adds isolation. Ignite a docker UX for VMs
