I made my Electron app 11.5x smaller in size and reduced idle memory usage by 21x. How? By rewriting it in Swift

This year’s trend in wwdc seems to be “here’s a super short and high level intro, take a look at previous wwdc vidz for actual details”. I understand why, but it does frustrate me a bit

apparently not. Despite all the experience we have with jumping through hoops with various “cross-platform” solutions out there that promise half the work for 2 platforms, and tend to actually mean a lot more time in QA, we seem to never learn, as an industry.

Well… it’s a valid move, and a valid tactic if the opponent overreached. It’s just that pros usually don’t go for “half the board will be mine mwahaha” in their opining gambit, thus negating the need for a counter…

Nothing, but it’s hard to carve something that won’t be utterly destroyed very soon. However because you count the number of HOLES each player controls, it can be a tactic pushing them to shrink the emty areas to almost no point

Regular reminder that while your manufactured conflict / drama may get you a few more clicks, there is some *actual* conflict and drama out there that would be interesting to cover too.

What that means in practice is that most ML toolchains (like tensorflow) that currently use AVX instructions aren't going to work until they switch to Metal. I understand the push for that technology, but it does cut many great OSS projects off from the mac.
