In what could be a death blow to , is ending its partnership with the United Express carrier. United is ExpressJet's only client. They employ ~3000 employees. United will partner solely with for its e145 operations.

How fast did things change? 2/24/2020 ExpressJet announced a bonus program for pilots that included a $22,500 sign-on bonus and an additional $17,500 for all captain-qualified pilots joining the company–whether they have a type rating or not.

Didn't United buy Expressjet from Skywest holdings basically returning the company to a wholy owned subsidiary as it was pre 9/11 for Continental. Now they are pulling the plug on the company?

More or less. Due to contract items with United's mainline flight attendant union, United only bought 49% of Expressjet. Sometimes its just better to write down your losses and move on.
