I've seen other software do this as well (tinkering with Power Profile settings without your consent). Remember when on nesdev I lectured the nemulator author for doing that, and he stopped?

Gut feeling: it means someone's signal handler is broken/buggy, not handling SIGWINCH properly. (Little known fact by many: yes, resizing a terminal window can send a literal UNIX signal to the userland process that's running in the fg; common with telnet and ssh)
