This illustrates an important point nicely. It's a shame the so called 'progressive press' leaves it to the MoS to cover it though. I talked about it on Sky News paper review this morning:

I too am critical of the GRA, but is simply wrong here? Trans women can already go to the link pond and women's changing rooms, but only because the exemptions which could be applied, and can still be applied under the GRA, are not being applied.

And this is the point of - to force organisations to use the exemptions that already exist. We women have asked and have been ignored, now we are making men uncomfortable enough to ask.

Correct. The EA 2010 exemptions operate irrespective of whether someone has a GRA or not. It’s a bit of a red herring . It’s the unwillingness to use the EA exemptions that are the probkem

Correct H Owen. However the exemptions which protect sex segregated spaces are being unlawfully being dismantled both by major corporations and local authorities and now the labour party. Have you been asleep and not noticed this?

That's not right. The exemptions are something organisations can use if they want to. They have to decide if they want to use them. It's not obligatory.

Perhaps you've been asleep and not noticed what the law says, sleepy head. And I am critical of the GRA.

Thanks. But if people are going to go on TV to talk about this v important stuff they really need to try and be accurate.

I think the GRA is very problematic though. It's a really poor piece of thinking by the government that serves no one well.

Hence the swimming protest because women’s requests for these exemptions to remain are being ignored.

In other words, they are not dismantling them, they are quite legally choosing not to apply them. They maybe should apply them, but it's not the current law or the proposed GRA which is responsible

I don't know if it's right or wrong not to apply the exemptions. The law says something about that, but not entirely sure what it is at this point moment. I think maybe it has to be on a case by case basis, not a blanket policy.
