That said, Northam's approval split is weak 17% approve, 34% disapprove, with another 44% expressing ambivalence (neither approve nor disapprove)

support for Fairfax resigning strong but still muddy - 35% say resign, 25% say don't, other respondents unsure.

I'm a conservative in VA. I don't care about what anyone did in college or HS. Our problem is the VAGOP is mostly GOPe.

Trump approval awful -- 25% approve, 56% disapprove. Democrats have big leads in various 2019 and 2020 generic ballot tests -- BUT, remember, this is a poll of all adults, and thus is more Dem-leaning than an actual electorate (particularly in 2019)

We gave respondents some outs on the responses, and many of them seemed to take them, so there's a lot of ambivalence, I think, in this poll. But no clear support for Northam/Fairfax resigning or particularly being impeached

In a previous letter, you mentioned that state Ds hope that national and not local issues would carry them to victory. But there is one national issue that may cut against them especially in the suburbs: the socialist label.

When did polling adults—vs RV/LV—go from more pro-Repub to more pro-Dem? Does it relate to who’s in the WH or is this, as I sense, a long-term trend?

would think it had to do w/ country becoming more racially diverse. I would imagine a poll of all adults during, say, the Great Depression would have a Dem lean. As it was, famous Literary Digest poll in 1936 only picked up relatively affluent, suggested Landon would win

I think the Fairfax approval numbers tell you everything you need to know about why they don't want Northam to design. Would be curious to know what the survey would show if someone else stood to succeed him.

My dude the GOP has been calling everyone in the Dem party a socialist since the 60s. No one is going to believe a bit of hyperbole from a party that they all currently hate. Also Lee Carter says hi.

Is there a breakout by race? We should be listening to POC and following their lead.

Yeah, about that. In the 60s if you called a Democrat a socialist he’d deny it, tell you why it wasn’t so and maybe even try to punch you in the face over it. Now many embrace it.

BTW, Democrats have been calling Republicans fascist/racist/klansmen since Eisenhower. That’s why no one takes them seriously now.

Considering how terribly going into a defensive crouch has been for Dems I think that’s a good thing. Seriously the Vietnam War happened just so LBJ could claim he was tough on communism. So this is a very positive trend.
