It may be worth noting that although you say the mechanism is obsolete, there is no problem with the result. Most western keyboards use deadkeys, an I don’t see a problem with that. With this keyboard, deadkeyed input [´] [i] [´] [j] results in U+00ED U+0237 U+0301
