A few years ago, I sat, for the first time, in a team meeting for an addiction psychiatry service. Any notion that addiction is considered to be a “personal choice” surprises and disgusts me. Many people had lives like this. So why are services being cut?

Brilliant! Everywhere should have a publicly available, up to date directory of local mental health services. Props also to the excellent as another grt example. Also 's hub of hope which is the best attempt Ive seen at trying to do this nationally

A reminder - mental illness is rarely associated with violence against others. Biggest risk is to self - whatever the illness (and yes that does include schizophrenia). Investment in mental health research and clinical services is what’s needed. No Quality without Equality.

There’s a lot of talk in the media over the last couple of days about violence and mental illness. Important to emphasise that any incident is extremely rare. Please don't assume that mental illness causes someone to act in a particular way.

Corporate induction wasn’t a thing when I first became a consultant. Hugely privileged to meet 45 new members of 3000 strong team on my first day. Sitting alongside new graduates starting preceptorship posts, apprentices aswell as experienced staff 👍
