Yes & the first one to do it will be A16Z = it is set up as an equivalent of Fidelity/Vanguard w/ individual managers leading a sector specific fund sharing a common platform for IR, fundraising, mktg = the thesis will be "if you want to buy a piece of Silicon Valley, buy A16Z"

The SEC filings would be fascinating! All their marks, valuations, write offs, carried interest splits, LP arrangements and side letters, team compensation out in the open!

Fidelity & others often invest in private cos. = disclosure reqs. not as onerous as one might think = VC firms w/ institutional LPs get audited annually w/ a lot of this info (many of those LPs are also public investors) = also CMGI (as a process, not outcome) = can be done :)
