Someone asked me to do an explainer for why we only see one side of the Moon, showing that it still rotates. Well, accumulating so many animations now that I can say "here's one I made earlier!" –

The world consumes 65% more coal today than it did in the year 2000. And our just-released report forecasts global demand will remain broadly stable over the next 5 years. Explore the key findings ⬇️

Who knows? Could work to your advantage. In any case, it is best not to overthink the gaming of such things because it is such a spin of the roulette wheel already and these sorts of second-order considerations would have a statistically undectable effect except at very large N.

We need a good decadal scale betting market and I need excellent health care to give me sufficient longevity so I can collect from all of the scenario optimists in a few decades. At the very least, people are overestimating their ability to predict the future.

Being a scientist does not make someone a policy analyst. Or a public relations expert, or a social changemaker, or a moral arbiter, or a polisci expert, or a prophet, or a priest. Quit asking scientists to play these roles. Just let them do science.

I cannot predict results of US Presidential elections. What is the relative importance of motivating base vs. appeal to the center? When Trump was nominated by the R's in 2016, I thought he had no chance of winning, so I have shown that I have no predictive skill in this area.

Yes, but it is not clear that all of the candidates would be able to beat Trump in the general election. Trump is a master at creating distractions, manipulating media, stimulating fear and insecurity, and generating group identity.

Is it too late for the Democrats to institute a ranked choice voting system in their primaries, so that the Democrats choose a candidate who is acceptable to most Democrats? The Democrats should institute policies to help assure majoritarian outcomes.

Remember that the RCP scenarios are based on radiative forcing and do not consider biogeochemical uncertainies. What if melting permafrost yields more methane than anticipated? What if the land biosphere or oceans take up less co2 than anticipated?

If I mute them, someone else is free to respond. I mute only people who are repetitive in their statements and who show no evidence of being able to change views in the face of additional facts. By muting, I am merely trying to protect my psychological well-being.

Block the bots. Block people whose mode of communication is insult and ad hominem attack. Mute people who are polite and well meaning but inistent and misguided.

Even if there was only climate system uncertainty and no scenario uncertainty, could we give such a narrow temperature range given IPCC definition of 'very likely' (90% interval)? And then add scenario uncertainty!
