Anyone who lived through the D.C. sniper experience remembers what it felt like. There was no way for the government to protect you until the snipers were caught. Having a gun on you wouldn't help a darn. They fired a rifle at long range with no warning.

As someone who interviews people for a living and spends a lot of time scheduling things, it's really gracious when the interviewee says, "I'm free at such-and-such time--does that work for you?" The simple "does that work for you?" goes a long way.
