Right now the charter says that we require WM/ILP but could be changed by the Advisory Council if another open standard emerged and started gaining traction. We would not give grants to support a proprietary system, regardless of the level of adoption.

The rules say that more than 50% must be given away for openly licensed content and software. We want to help promote open, freely available content but there should still be some benefit for users with WM, so 100+20 bonus content seems like a good option!

That's good feedback - we have been focused on on real-time streaming so that's what the draft assumes. If you're paying at the end of the month, the tag would be the same but the events wouldn't happen. We'll add this use case to the next draft!

Web Monetization is just a meta tag with a payment address, so it's possible to implement a WM provider that pays end of the month like you suggest. We'd love to work with to come up with a standard that supports both our use cases.

I have huge respect for you. JavaScript is practically my life. 🧡 I do have experience with cryptocurrency though, so I'll warn you that tokens tend to trap people in an us-vs-them mindset. The exact opposite of what the Web has always stood for. Don't make that mistake.
