A corollary to Gell-Mann amnesia:
In dialogue with people I often realize they've misunderstood my point the 1st (or 2nd, or 3rd) time I try to express it
But then when I'm writing a talk / article / etc. I just blithely assume everyone will understand the whole thing perfectly

Good God, don't get me started. I'm like the kid who points out the Emperor is naked at almost every work meeting when someone is trying to pass off some confused, wishful-thinking, mumbo jumbo, and everyone else is pretending to follow because they're afraid of looking stupid.

It's embarrassing how often I've been in online flamewars where, after a few posts, we realise we actually agree about everything.

I realize now that this is why experienced public speakers integrate a lot of audience participation and/or asking “who knows what <X simple thing> is” to make sure everyone is following along.

Another wider corollary to Gell-Man amnesia: ever read a news article about a situation that you have first-hand knowledge of? What a coincidence those are the only articles riddled with errors and misunderstandings.

To be fair, there's some truth to this. It's easier to understand people in a lecture environment because you aren't thinking about what you're going to say next and can focus on understanding.
