Clear penalty on Matip today. No call on the pitch, VAR doesn’t overturn. If called on the pitch, it would not have been overturned either. How is that the “right” decision if two different outcomes could be correct? Liverpool scores 2 min later anyway. Things even out!

I apologized to some players for a comment I made on their attitudes. In front of the team so everyone would know. Many of the girls teared up and said no adult had ever apologized to them like that before. Touching, but sad to hear. Coaches should apologize for mistakes too.

Asked a kid yesterday what his favorite book was and he said, “memes.” 🤦‍♂️

I take a hard line on this. If parents have great ideas on how to run a team, become a coach. They would hate it if I gave unsolicited advice on parenting. Friendly chat and talk football? Sure! Threaten to remove your kid because I don’t take your advice? Enjoy your new club!

The ref crew let parents leave the bleachers & come to the sideline. Player got injured and her dad barely approached the technical area. Refs chew me out for “letting” this parent do that but I think the refs should not have let them onto the field in the first place. 🤷‍♂️

I have had more than one male colleague sincerely ask whether a certain behavior is mansplaining. Since apparently this is hard to figure out, I made one of them a chart.

We need to support the women’s game. Crowd sizes and money are not the only things we should value in football or life.

I like that one because of the iridescent badge. 😍 It’s only on the training kit now now.

This is why it’s so important that girls have female coaches and mentors. It’s not that men can’t coach girls. It’s about girls seeing possibilities for their futures.

I hear you! I had a referee walk right past me and head over to a player’s dad and call him coach. I had on team gear from head to toe and the parent had on shorts and a t-shirt. It’s so tiring sometimes but we can’t give up. 💪

At check-in today, the ref walked right past me - in my full team gear - and went up to a player’s dad who was in shorts and a t-shirt and said, “Hi Coach” to the dad. Seriously? 🤨 Sometimes you just have to laugh or you’ll cry your eyes out if you don’t. 🤦‍♀️

Was getting pretty down on myself today after my newly formed team had two losses. Then I looked over at the girls on the bench and they were laughing and proud of themselves for accomplishing so much so far. I realized I work for them and they were happy today!
