The human body has a lot of internal mass-energy, but somehow we do not explore in a glorious nuclear flash. Comparing the Sun and a compost pile is a bit silly. Unless compost does nuclear fusion.

My biggest problem is that the toast is made of white fluffy bread, and not dark rye bread. Ruispalat FTW.

Astrophysics basically attempts to harmonize models and observations. Falsification is a sidenote. Aim is for better observations and better models. And often multiple interpretations can apply - given limited data.

Yeah. When you can only observe and almost never experiment, makes the whole thing pretty different. Part of my work has been trying to figure out how various theoretical astrophysical predictions could be "seen" because no direct experiment can test them.

Yes. As a theorist it frustrates me that some think theoretical work is only valid if proven true. IMHO, lot of theory work is about building understand over time. Some of it might be proven incorrect, but more important is that understanding improves gradually.

Same can be said about much of science. Falsification of well-specified theories is misleading. In many domains, such theories are over-specified theories in that commitment to many aspects is premature. Theories are more like broad intellectual projects or directions.

. is an extraordinary, massive, persistent force of nature, like Jupiter’s Great Red Spot or something. Read his decade in review and be gobsmacked:
