1) most retailers still do not understand the lifetime value of their customers 2) most retailers do not have unified identity across channels. There is still plenty of right to win and will be for another 5 years. Even against the 1st wave of DTC who don't know #1 & 2 either

The big question I have is are they optimizing the copy across all advertisers on the keyword as a whole or just optimizing at an individual advertiser level. In any respect, another win for the machines.

Sir Martin can say that Google and Facebook are media companies, and it would not be wrong. However, they have two of the largest data center footprints in the word as well as the two of of the leading research arms in AI and ML. Probably worth mentioning as well.
