Here's another iPad Pro prototype! 😀 This time I'm using the Apple Pencil for text selection + copy & paste in a Markdown editor 📝 I really love the idea of using the pencil as a dedicated pointing device - it adds a whole new layer of possible interactions 👍

That's really nice, , but have you considered allocating the tap feature to change from selection mode to "change the cursor to".

Single tap does that 👍

I love that! Looks like similar thinking that lead to rearrange-with-pencil-without-delay UX in MindNode on the iPad :)

Can't wait to try that! I'm currently catching up on 6 years worth of iPad apps 😅 But MindNode is already installed and ready to go - going to do some architectural work later this week, so I'll definitely use it then 👍

I sure wish text selection worked like this system wide. Nice. But you can’t really overload double-tap that way. What if you wanted to copy the second text selection instead of pasting to replace it?

Me too, glad you like it 🙂 The double-tap gesture needs some more thinking, for sure. One idea I had was to visualize the pasteboard on screen (as a small floating panel, for example), and enabling the user to easily clear it, but need to do some more prototyping on that 👍

iOS lets you differentiate between touch input and pencil input (which is what I use to allow the pencil to select text without causing scrolling), so I don't need to do any sort of palm detection - the system handles all that stuff for me 🙂

I see you ending up at Apple as a UI-consultant… Great stuff, John - makes me wanna get the new Pencil right away! 😍

As long as I can still podcast, blog & share my work with the community, then I’d be happy to do it 😊 Thanks buddy 🙌
