Let's start thinking about Deval Patrick. Maybe a late, fresh start is the way to go

Very nice work. My guess is that the hippocampal systems are specialised for low-dimensional surfaces (1, 2 maybe 3d). Not locked to navigation, but to movement (of any sort) across the space to adjacent locations.

Seems mostly semantic. If rats don't have pre-frontal cortex, they have a region of cortex that becomes or differentiates into prefrontal cortex. No brain area arises de novo.

Interesting question, but Seems too fast to be alternating consciousness.

yeah. Can an argument be made of a shared function, but where the function "transitions" (I know this is bad evolution) to prefrontal cortex in non-human primates and humans? Evidence?

Very cool. Reminds me of enclosed roller coaster rides (space mountain) where walls are very close; speed feels much greater.

I don't understand why Iowans prefer Sanders to Warren. Roughly same political goals, but, as I see it, she beats him in age, articulateness, gender, accomplishments (smarts?).

“what’s it like to smell chocolate?” A desire and motivation to eat some, and the beginning of a plan.

I suspect you’re wrong. Seems unlikely that the hypothalamus itself produces a conscious state. As a comparison, amygdala was long-suspected to be fear; current notion is that fear (a conscious feeling) depends on cortex.

Colors are in (or from) the world. The mistake is to equate colors with individual photon wavelength. Colors are patterns, averaged across an input array. (why does autocorrect changes 'colors' to 'colours'?) Patterns are complex.

Although 75% of US voters wanted witnesses, my guess is that close to a majority in the states of R senators did not. democracy?

Going to be a doozie of a State of the Union speech. Script will be crazy enough, but my guess is he’ll go off script and go into clampagn rally mode. (but I won’t be able to listen.)

Do place cells with fields near a wall in one environment tend to have fields near a wall in another environment? Also, what makes environments sufficiently different for total remapping?

Evidence not as strong but seems to be there. Need to put electrodes deep in the brain. Human recordings are from pre-surgical patients in hospital beds watching spatial videos.

Nice very short video, but to me looks like pure place cells — no clear prediction. (looks like the large circle is rat's current location in maze; firing can encode current location.) Paper about predicting 2 possible paths.

single neurons recorded in the hippocampus, mostly in rats. Discovered by John O'Keefe in early 1970s (Recent Nobel prize to O'Keefe and Mosers). Almost certainly not solely devoted to place, but place appears a strong preference. Networks for sure.

I’d like to see your causation summary. Is motivation a cause? In a law textbook (on torts) I skimmed, the chapter of “causation’ focused on negligence.
