Virginians, I strongly encourage you to download COVIDWISE, Virginia’s new exposure notification software for iOS & Android. Implementing the Google-Apple Exposure Notification standard, it collects zero personal info.

This trailer cheered me up. I'm going to log off happy. (I know Obama had his policy flaws. Some big ones, too. But, man, compared to where we are now...)

The civic literacy required to even try to change things around here is staggering. Lots can be said about this, but it does jump to mind how important local journalism is.

Incredible that could endure what she just went through and write something this beautiful so quickly: "My neighborhood looked like a picture from the wars I had seen from afar — a mouth missing all its teeth"

"Racially insensitive." 🙄 I really thought that media outlets had learned the evasive language & euphemisms do the public a disservice.

As a tenured professor, I'd like to say: to hell with this guy. Sophistry in the service of his political ambitions.

This is great. I'm not sure I spotted Frederick Douglass' essays/speeches on photography on any of those lists. Must have overlooked it.

The exhibition will travel to the Whitney. Very much worth going out of the way to see.

There are a few more of Lou Draper's photos in the Smithsonian's collection. You can see them, here (including a portrait of John Coltrane that I'm pretty sure I've never seen).

Draper made two great portraits of Hamer. One is hard enough. But two... Here's the other.

Who was the photographer Lou Draper? This video is a great introduction. The first voice you hear will be his. He & the Kamoinge Workshop should be covered in every history of photography. (BTW, the 's exhibition has been extended until October.)
