Well, you said "privacy lapse" which is what this was, albeit not a social media one. But I do think the millions of ppl whose data the PRC now has, had an expectation of privacy, or at least security, when they gave that data to the fed govt. Maybe more so than w social media.

While I was in DC this week I joined for Radio Hour to talk about the border crisis, recent migrant deaths, why the crisis will likely drag on into 2020, and why it's so hard for journalists to cover the border. Listen here -

Good thread on one aspect of the many problems w social media. The most jarring example of this I’ve experienced is tweets posted by a news network, tagging me, immediately after appearing on air. The sheer volume of responses wipes out any sense of personhood or humanity.

Tactically, this seems like a good template for securing the border, and one with ample historical precedent -

If only there were some pattern to all this, some reason why, say, 5 of the 15 fastest-growing US cities are in Texas, and why states like Illinois are shrinking.

“If someone exists, there will be traces, and if there are connections, there will be information.” It's like senior officials in PRC watched Minority Report, but totally missed the point--took the opposite lesson, actually.

I think the idea is that you can't negotiate legislation in good faith with an opposition party that's openly discussing impeachment and carrying on investigations toward the same.

Outrageous. At House Homeland Sec. budget hearing, Dem Rep. Lauren Underwood says the death of five migrant children in CBP care was "intentional." Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan calls this an "appalling accusation," which it is.
