Curious: what do you think you, personally (not others!), should do about climate change? How do you feel about your own answer - does it seem satisfactory to you, or unsatisfactory?

I realize it's tempting to say what others should do, but it's certainly not what I'm asking, nor what I'm interested in.

My own answer: I'm really unsure, and trying to figure it out. I'm also a little frustrated - I can get lots of good advice, but it feels very piecemeal, and often contradictory. So I'm still trying to figure it out.

It's a good question. I've been working on this for years, it's a puzzle for everyone. I wrote the UN Environment Program Policy on sustainable consumption. . I break down personal contributions into three active layers Practical Systemic Systematic

Practical - all the classics which accumulate and send market + political signal, and limit impact. - cycle/transit to work - eat less meat - holiday more locally - insultate home, use heat pump/solar capture - recycle especially food - live in dense, efficient environment etc

The problem with these solutions is they are extremely middle-class: they rely on you having time, money, information; and they even though to do accumulate, they don't per se flip systems, they can just be managing a deeper problem. But it's not binary: these actions count.

Isn't anything 'sustainable' in an environment with finite resources an oxymoron?

If you mean this question seriously, I invite you to consider why you (and we all) seek a long and healthy life, even though we know we will die in the end. Or as Steve Jobs put it: "No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. "
