“female-presenting nipple”
If there is a slippery slope of platform censorship, it didn't start with Infowars. It started with the Moroccan atheists, the trans models, the drag performers, the indigenous women...

I keep thinking about this and finding myself mostly OK with Jones's removal. He was on the fringe before the rise of social and now he's back to the fringe. Corporate media control is bad but the tech corporations are incredibly liberal as far as gatekeepers go.

On a personal level, so am I. But I'm not okay with all of the decisions that came before it (the ones cited in that tweet) and I don't see tech corporations as liberal when they police women's bodies as they do.

Too godamn true. The speed at which censorship has been acellerating for the last four years makes taking out the world's most successful bullshit artist barely a footnote. In fact, all I can feel is a certain relief.

people seem to forget that, as they say, the wheel never stops turning. Just because you dislike what's unpopular with major platforms today doesn't mean that'll be the case tomorrow. fwiw, that's also why the precedent of firing people for their views scares me.

Yeah 100%. My question is how to approach the new age of Big Tech gatekeepers. Do you accept the status quo and lobby them to be better gatekeepers—applauding the Jones ban and advocating against other censorship—or do you try to reject their gatekeeping role altogether.

But no no, censoring brown people and sexual minorities is okay! Only bad when censoring old white men.

I used to reject their role altogether, but now I think it's inevitable. What I've been doing is calling for more transparency, due process (appeals), and for Zuckerberg and Dorsey to resign.
