We tapped out of Notion as a task manager very quickly. Itās an amazing wiki like thing, but it does at tasks. Hard.

At the basic level it costs as much as a lunch in SF every month and has the potential to return millions while fostering a small community around your vision and values.
Itās got a full feature set and ability to scale as needs grow.

Always get paid up front. Itās your bad for not getting paid otherwise. That said, what does your Master Service Agreement state for nonpayment?
Contracts are key my friend.

if you don't tell people what you're doing people will assume you do nothing
This is the #1 reason for developing a blogging practice (or screencasting, etc)

Learn what you can, affect change at the grassroots level by trying to understand *why* things are the way they are, and start planning for the next gig after 1-year (you'll get a nice raise that way)
I think blogging is a great "performance and proof" exercise for each of these

Which language? Depends on the available resources and environment for learning.
Python, JavaScript, and Java are all the strongest candidates with that criteria from my observation.

It adds a ton of ācruftyā complexity imo with significantly less learning resources.

My mom used to drop me off at their houses sight unseen lol
One of those homies is how I got my first screen at home. A dumb terminal with a 300 baud modem. THAT takes a dedicated nerd to load a bbs at 300 baud hah
Getting a 1200 baud was š„°

I think another cool aspect is that you can use the proceeds however you choose. Pay rent. Sponsor others. Give it away to folks that can use it but itās beyond current means.
All options when you own the work!

For me the feeling has faded over the years.
Nothing bad happens.
People love the work product.
Folks are happy to pay for value.
Honest work!
