After the war, the Lebanese elites rebuilt downtown Beirut with large squares to project an image of stability. Ironically they've been used only for demonstrations ever since.

❤️ Lebanon, which can be counted on to live up to the cliches by holding a revolution and a dance party at the same time

Only in Lebanon! Makes me miss living there. (Although I’m not sure the toddler was calmed by their rendition - stunned, maybe!)

This is me and dad after 18,I left that system,I went back to exactly where I should have been all along. My best friends arms.I got into university and you should have seen their faces, especially my mums and bros. Everyday she pushed me, motivated me and showered me in love.

All I keep thinking about is the pain and suffering my dad went through when FACS made the decision to send over 14 police officers and a social worker to rip me out of his arms in the middle of the night. The system is sickening and needs to be abolished, NOT reformed.Abolished.

In my clinical experience - children whose parents believe them immediately & respond wt validation & compassion do so much better in the long term than those whose parents think they can’t possibly be telling the truth. The doubt is internalised & they carry it within forever.

This is unbelievable. A young refugee girl 13 years ago and now named in the 100 Influential Women. I really must thanks my mum and my family who have been extraordinary. And for their support and trust. Humbled.

Samantha Fraser lived in abject terror of her ex-husband & it didn’t stop once the relationship ended. It’s common to see an escalation in coercive, controlling & surveilling behaviours in the lead up to family violence homicide - often around separation

this is hard to read, but you should. There’s a reason we often don’t hear about the stories of DV victims until after they’re murdered

“It seems that being accused of being “unsupportive” of the children’s relationship with their father is given far greater weight by the Court than whether that father has exposed the children to violence.” A horrifying read:

I’m shaking right now. I’m at the shopping centre waiting to buy some bread with my mum, an Indian server and next to a Sudanese lady. An old White lady walks past and says “Spots the Aussie” The looks on the family and server were heartbreaking. My mother and I were shocked.
