At my first developer role I was pretty much beginning to get on a react native project. They were pretty much telling me they didn't trust that I can be valuable on that project. So at my desk I made a react native app for a gaming community that ended up getting over 30k users

My parents told me I needed to marry rich to survive. My decade-long impactful career where I've often been the sole source of income seems to prove them wrong.

A few years ago this guy at a hackathon tried dismissing my contributions by snottily asking me about my credentials when I disagreed with him(after I'd written 90% of our code). I won ten hackathons the year after that, largely to spite him.

Was told that as I was disabled I won't get a job so should just be happy with government assistance for the rest of my life. Since then have shipped million seller games, working at Apple on stuff in every device and even a published author.

My secondary school science teacher told me I’d never amount to much. Like all the other “non-academic” girls in the school I was advised to pursue child-minding. I have no idea why. Fast forward, single mum, just got my MSc with distinction at Imperial College London- PhD next!

In the 90s, after my career counseling tests, the psychiatrist said I should work as an engineer/architect in a place where I didn’t have contact with people, because I was too shy. I have been working in D&I for years and my last role was Culture and Social Impact Manager. 🙌

When I started I was dismissed SO MANY TIMES. Since then, we’ve helped shut down NCP websites, get laws passed, and develop tech for victims to help them through their experience, as well as aid law enforcement in dozens of arrests.

6th grade science teacher said I should be burned at the stake like Joan of Arc. Hi, I make 10x more than you did as a teacher, have two black belts, three degrees, and I’m on network news or in the newspaper every other week.

My parents told me not to quit my job when I transitioned because no one would hire me. I’m now traveling the world as a lead consultant for a major company, sit on the advisory board of 2 labs, and am having to turn down interviews with major newspapers and media outlets.

I would be passive aggressively and lovingly sending them every cool thing I did because I’m petty, but I bet you’re too busy doing cool things 😌
