Inspired by multi faceted refraction article, decided to give it a go and extend it a little bit 😬 Added environment reflections, Schlick's fresnel, light dispersion and proper traced back/front refractions!

This here is actual development progress. made some motion previs for this in AE for it. Whenever I prototype something I prefer to do it straight in code. Both for motion and technical proof of concept. I’m really not good with AE 😬

Day 23: Planet To turn the single default cube into this miniature planet with volumetric clouds and atmosphere, I used the same technique of turning the mesh inside out, as for the asteroid.

Most of it I described here . The transition is as simple as animating the z position of the cube towards the camera while tweening the index of refraction to 1—removing any distortion.
