Interestingly I often find that today’s classical music criticism also lacks a real description of what a new piece does and how. Very little technical writing in music journalism, which I think means readers are deprived of an evocative understanding of what really happened.

All seems logical to me. In medicine we have a phrase which is to not let “perfect be the enemy of the good.” In other words, Yes you are right but better this than nothing.
