Weirdly, the minute I saw option 4, I knew that’s what I wrote. Je m’accuse... I guess.

🖐️A case of the have and have-nots for me. I wrote this live from the call, haven't had the chance to get the transcript to update the exact wording. BTW also wonder if "have" changes it much. Do you disagree?

If one of the challenges of open source is needing to manage -- set up, secure, and run -- it properly, it's no surprise to companies offering these cropping up and growing.

Yep. Spotify hasn't made much of its ad business so far, but the idea I think is that doubling down on podcasts could help with that. A lot. (So far, however, podcast ad revenues have yet to catch up with audience trends, I believe.)

Well there you go. This was exactly what I was talking about when I posted the earlier tweet about Spotify and advertising.

The ad business being so small today (just under 12%) is one reason why I think the podcast growth is something to watch over there. It gives Spotify another prime place to sell ads, since these are worked into podcasts in multiple formats that don't exist in music streams.

Spotify's ad biz is growing, but it's still just under 12% of its total sales (premium subscriptions are much bigger). Interesting complement when you consider the companies out there that could stand to diversify from their mainly ad-based revenues.

So much of what we think of as AI today has shifted to a focus on software, despite its roots in robots and 'hardware'. Here's a startup out of Poland (not the Valley) bucking that trend. Also of note: Khosla making a relatively rare European seed investment.

Amid all the debates around immigration, as hard-working individuals, immigrants get the short end of the stick when it comes to services. In light of that, here's something that addresses a very real gap in the market.

Pretty dire numbers imply this really was last-chance saloon for BB - TCL has only a 1% smartphone market share at the moment, Strategy Analytics tells me. No surprise that it's been pursuing its own brand efforts instead.

I don't know what I hate more: this, or when the pre-roll ads are actually longer than the video itself. Both are very ggrrrrr.

No word yet on whether someone else will be making BB handsets, if anyone at all. Curious about what kind of mileage is left in this brand, in this day and age. (I suppose TCL thought about this, too.)

Two themes at play here. 1/ the long tail of fintech businesses presents a collective, credible competitive threat to incumbents; 2/ in a bid for better margins, yet more consolidation in the wider push for economies of scale in our fragmented, new world of online finance

I can't afford anything from Moda (and am probably not elegant enough to pull any of it off) but in its way it's been quite disruptive in the fashion world and shows how tech really can level the playing field.

Basically Zoom on steroids. Spatial plans to build an SDK based on its tech, which cleverly (and adeptly, from my use) straddles the worlds of VR/AR and workplace collaboration. Interesting and solid startup. tip
