In case you missed it, this morning's People's Budget LA Hearing knocked it out of the park. We have to reimagine public safety, and that starts with our budgets. If you have the time to listen to the entire presentation I can not recommend it enough.

If anyone wants to be more engaged with LA City's Council Committee meetings here's the link to their schedule. There's a Budget and Finance Committee meeting happening now that you can listen in on:

I don't want to hear shit from and until they address every single instance of misconduct from the LAPD over the last week. I want them to watch every video, live. Right now cell phones seem to be the only tool protecting the citizens of Los Angeles.

We have the to thank for that. You've done nothing but watch as the LAPD kettled protestors before curfew. Your cops aimed rubber bullets at people in their apartments. We can clearly see the fucking footage. Fire and resign.

Seriously!! It's our government's job to provide clear messaging. The burden can't be on the average citizen to cross reference all these conflicting statements, it isn't realistic.

He had to come back out to say that he misspoke. If you're the chief of the LAPD right now, you better be pretty damn clear with your words. Accidentally saying inflammatory shit puts everyone in danger imo.

Yeah, I believe it’s a complete waste of money to continue growing disciplinary departments without also growing, let alone defunding, supportive programs like education and affordable housing. We continually fund a vicious cycle and act confused by the results.

Thank you for this link, it's a great one! Civil Forfeiture Laws are a fucking disgrace. There is so much injustice to speak out about, it's hard to know where to even begin.

No matter where you are in this country, you can keep yourself educated about both where your money is going, as well as where it COULD be going.

Crime rates are dropping across the country, including in cities where police forces are being reduced. More police does not equal less crime. If you're in LA City, I'd recommend learning more about the People's Budget, which is supported by .

Meanwhile, in LA City, the LAPD takes 54% of the entire discretionary spending budget. Tomorrow, June 1st, that number will increase by $120 million-while education, city repair, & public service hotlines continue to lose funding. LA's homicide rate is at its lowest since 1962.

We're living in a country that has no interest in using our collective tax dollars to fund healthcare or education. We have normalized crowdfunding treatment for patients, PPE for healthcare workers, & supplies for teachers.

They're designed to withstand high schoolers for years so they'd better be sturdy! The one Mark used was more recent and it had a whole programming and tracking system. We didn't show it but we have some ideas for using them again.
