Lincoln PD (Maine) were notified that Gary Gordon’s headstone (yes, THE Gary Gordon) was vandalized. They just posted these pictures to Facebook. I cannot fathom anybody who could be so callous, insensitive, or despicable as to disturb the final resting place of a man who /1

lived, bled, and died for his brothers in arms and his country, in such a horrible way. There’s talk that this might have been done as a precursor to adding a gold inlay to the engraving, but nobody has stepped forward or notified the family to confirm. /2

...that really looks like it was done with an airbrush and not spray paint. Also looks like over spray was already partially removed. I mean, if it gets finished off with an over lay it will look really beautiful. This is a really weird kinda vandalism....

I’m leaning towards the charcoaling theory. If whoever did it left it like that, it’s still pretty disrespectful.

Is it possible that this is shellac prep layer for gold leafing? I am going to hold out hope that better angels will prevail here.

I’m willing to bet that this is an incomplete inlaying job.... it’s too centered on the writing and the paint color is very appropriate for the background. Were there any police reports filed? Where is this picture even from? Seems like rabbling to me.
