I think love certainly and probably fear too - it's more subtle but often stops people from doing the things they want to do.

“You have too much social influence upon you. You are not going by your own nature. People do so many nonsensical life-negative things because they don’t want to be left out of the scene around them.”

Great article in the Echo today about the cartoons that featured in newspapers over the ages - including one which covers the history of smuggling at Paglesham and its links to #HMSBeagle #discover2020 pic.twitter.com/YAHUmR3WDg

We're aware of a video circulating online that shows a young girl being attacked on a bus, possibly in the West Midlands.
Officers are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to get in touch quoting log number 814 of 28/01/20. pic.twitter.com/FHaWRz76rI

Writing A-Z: Z is for 'Zeppelin', a poem from my 'Unspoken Understanding' collection which was inspired by aerial attacks on Southend in the Great War. I hope you've enjoyed my A-Z. It's been fun putting it together. pic.twitter.com/8JhEP0LkMA

Writing A-Z: Y is for Yearsleys in Essex. There aren't many! I researched my family back to 1760s Manchester for a uni essay. My great-grandfather joined the army in 1858 and was posted to Colchester, where he married a local girl and established the Essex line.

Writing A-Z: X is for Xylonite, a celluloid-like substance once manufactured at Brantham in Suffolk. I wrote about it in my book "Dedham, Flatford and East Bergholt: A Pictorial History". Here's a pic from there of the British Xylonite Company's band. pic.twitter.com/KvrTkbVFTZ

Writing A-Z: W is for Wivenhoe Park, home of the University of Essex, where I obtained an MA in History. My dissertation was about population migration in the Rochford Hundred in the 19th century. This and my other essays about Essex are available for consultation @essexarchive.

Writing A-Z: V is for Visitors' Books, especially at Essex churches. I've signed over 400 of those, some of them many times! Here's a poem from my 'Tears of Poignancy' collection which was inspired by visits to redundant churches, especially at Birch and Stansted Mountfitchet. pic.twitter.com/mQtA1qRiE9
