What a monumental day it was. Humanity finally saw it's first black hole and also found another hominid species in the Philippines. In both instances though, we were looking back in time, at the very horizon of all human knowledge, trying to expand it.

The best lesson I took away from was the importance of outlining before writing any pages. Later when I started being hired for assignments, I was ready because every job I’ve done required a solid outline in place.

True, Mark! That's why I don't see it as a "vomit" draft anymore.

Respect the first draft and your rewrites won’t be like starting over. A solid outline helps and allows you to write a faster draft with most of the story issues already developed.

When breaking your story & working on your outline (I hope you outline), you always find great stuff you didn’t think of yesterday. The longer you sit with the characters, inhabit their lives, & visualize the entire film... it helps you write a better first draft.
