Possible return of Müller, Hummels and Boateng? Bierhoff: "The phase of upheaval between March 2019 and December 2020 is now over. The coach has to decide what's best for the Euros. He has all the options."

Bierhoff on next year's Euros: "We always have high expectations, even if we’re not one of the big favourites. Every team dreams of becoming European champions, but I will wait until the end of the tournament before I pass any judgement."

Bierhoff: We played much too slowly & sideways in 2018. We have to change our playing style towards a more high-intensity, vertical approach. For that, we need more speed & stability going forward. Players like Sané, Werner and Gnabry aren’t exactly the type to hold onto the ball

Bierhoff: "We have a great bunch of guys who love joining up with us and are proud to play for their country. However, the team needs time, training sessions and games in order to gain experience and to gel."

Bierhoff: "The team isn’t too young, but inexperienced. Serge Gnabry, who has undergone a fantastic development in recent years, has just 17 caps. Kai Havertz, who is one of Germany’s biggest talents, has just ten"

Bierhoff: "I can assure you all though that Jogi wasn’t resigned to defeat; he found the right words before the game and at half time, which is when he also switched to man marking, which worked really well against Spain in September. It just didn’t work this time"

Bierhoff on the 0-6 against Spain: "It’s not my job to defend Joachim Löw, but you can’t judge a head coach based on a single game. The defeat and the way we played were damning. Nevertheless, the team’s development as a whole can’t be reduced to one performance.

Bierhoff: "2020 has been an unprecedented year and the coach was unable to add to this development. The difficult situation meant that the team wasn’t able to develop. The boys didn’t meet up for ten months – that’s a very long time"

Bierhoff: "We were all in agreement that it would require time and patience. It’s clear to say that we achieved all of our goals in 2019. The team had developed in terms of the football we were playing, & we lost just one of our ten games to qualify for the EUROs top of our group

Oliver Bierhoff: "We gave Jogi Löw clear goals following the disappointing 2018 WC & the subsequent rebuild. We wanted him to develop a team with a new playing style, we wanted to qualify for EURO 2020, stay in League A of the Nations League & be in pot 1 of the WC qualifiers"

Kimmich: "It's difficult to take away positives from an injury, because you can't just pretend that an injury like this isn't serious. Of course it's positive that you're not away as much and that I can be at home more. But I'd rather be with the team, to play in CL & Bundesliga"

Kimmich: "My knee didn't feel good at the beginning. I couldn't extend it anymore, I couldn't bend it. I was really in pain before the operation. But after the operation my knee felt good right away. I could walk without crutches relatively early. I was even able to ride a bike"

Kimmich: "The surgery went very well. I was able to start rehab relatively smoothly after about a week. I think everything is going according to plan. From next week onwards, I'll do more with the ball & more complex training and I hope next year I'll be back to normal" [FCBtv]
