Q for you and : would building a Mac app to input the images/data be difficult? And/or a 2 way app so if the iPhone app saw a card it didn't reconize the Mac app would be notified and the user could update data?

No reason why this couldn’t be done purely on device. Image recognition data can be added dynamically β€” show a camera, snap the card, link it to an account, and away you go. Very similar to iOS’ credit card camera screen.
